Unfortunately circumstances change. In today’s economic times downsizing is the name of the game.

There might be a merger with another company and the new group does not need two people performing the same function. The contraction of the market might simply mean that executive functions have to be merged somehow.

In either event someone's contract has to be terminated early.

In today’s market new jobs will be hard to come by and any executive that is made redundant needs to make sure that the compensation offered by his previous employer adequately reflects the benefits lost.

These benefits can both numerous and complex and professional help is needed when putting a value on them particularly when there are contingent elements such as bonuses and share options.

In these circumstances both parties may require advice in order to arrive at an equitable settlement.
