Ian McKeever & Co gives financial advice for which it generally charges a fee although alternative terms can be negotiated. This has a number of advantages but the main one is that it is clear to the client that the advice he is receiving has a cost.

When commission is paid it may seem that the insurer or other provider is paying for the advice, whereas in fact the provider is taking those charges out of the client's fund and using that money to pay the advisor. The client is still paying. It is just that the cost appears as a reduction in the investment return achieved but the client still ends up paying. At the end of the day the effect is the same. With fees, this is clear to both sides and the advisor clearly has to justify his fees.

The second advantage for the client is that the range of investments is extended because if an advisor is remunerated by commission, there is necessarily a reluctance to advise on investments that provide the advisor with no commission.

Investment is always about providing financial security for either yourself or your family. What this means depends very much on your own personal circumstances. At different periods in your life it is a matter of identifying the risks and protecting against them while at other times this needs to be balanced with achieving the best overall investment returns.

This section of our web site is dedicated to the private investor. To the right of these pages is a navigation bar giving general guidance on different stages in people’s lives and different circumstances. Please read the sections that you feel may apply to you but we would particularly recommend the pages on Risk. Recent events have shown that no investments are totally risk-free and all investors need to have some understanding of risk, if only so that they can avoid it.

We also hope that these pages give you an indication of the general approach Ian McKeever & Co takes to giving investment advice. In many cases this general advice may be sufficient for your needs. If not and you like what we say please contact us and we can discuss your needs in more detail.
